1st things first: If my administration can shake their magic 8 ball and find the $$ to find help for the weekends it would be appreciated.
2nd: That cursing out a dispatcher does not entitle you to think that I will change my mind after I've said "Sorry sir your not permitted to park in that gated lot." Oh yeah, threatening to shove a gate someplace will most likely get you towed or a visit from my Sgt who hates hearing that I was a tad bit bullied.
3rd: That students need to remember that if you work as a work study student for my department that my trust and respect towards you is not a automatic thing. If you treat me with disrespect you may not like my reaction towards you, as I will not acknowledge you easily. Also when we tell you this is life and death and not some "sims game" take that as a strong indication that I as well as the rest of my co-workers take extreme pride in our jobs and that we do not get paid to baby-sit. Also note to work study students: Please read up on HIPPA as well as what the definition of CONFIDENTIALITY truly means.

seriously, your school sounds just like mine! :)
its tough to try to find dispatchers for the overnight, especially when the student part timers are gone. I used to do more overnights, but since the baby, I simply can't function, because I wont be able to sleep in the next day.
oh, and point #2....oh yes....oh yes, i have been there. only, my sgt is more inclined to believe the other guy, than get mad that i was bullied.
We used to have our students who had to do community service do our shredding for us, which i thought was the dumbest thing ever. Hmmm, you are in trouble on campus, i will hand you these reports about confidential things, and leave you alone for hours on end. DUMB!!! so yeah, you can't trust new folks easily.
on a side note: 2 off campus car accidents this past weekend. both with major injuries. talk about nightmare!
I have to remind myself at times that I am human and can vent. Whether I'm heard or not is the next thing "sigh".
The Off campus accidents are definitely chaotic. It's worse when it's auto-ped and everyone involved is drunk.
My new explanation to a work study student was that yep your getting paid to "work" here but I doubt their going to continue to pay you to do your homework versus doing the job you've been assigned. A subtle hint that she got loud and clear to put away her Crim Justice homework.
I'm getting ready for 2 back to back 12hr shifts. The money is good and when I get frustrated I've learned to vent out rather than hold it in.... The two words I hate most BURN OUT.....
Two weeks and counting to vacation.
